作者簡介
柯靈思，生于1924年3月18日，卒于2011年6月3日。著名語言學家和教育家，畢業(yè)于美國得克薩斯州基督教大學 （Texas Christian University） 和耶魯大學神學院 （Yale Divinity School） 。1961年和兩個朋友共同開發(fā)了全美語言學校最通用的世界級權(quán)威英語培訓課程ESL （English as a Second Language） 并擔任教授及導師等職務，從此開始語言教育生涯。1963年，接受美國政府委托，創(chuàng)作并發(fā)行了針對母語非英語人士的英語教材English 900。該書自出版以來，好評如潮，創(chuàng)下了全球狂銷1600萬冊的銷售紀錄。20世紀80年代初，更是風靡中國，人手一本，堪稱英語學習者必備的一套經(jīng)典實用教材。1972年，回到家鄉(xiāng)獵鷹灣 （FalconCove） 著手促進語言教育，并于1975年創(chuàng)立佩斯國際研究 （Pace International Research） 集團有限公司，專門從事針對外國人的英語教材開發(fā)。先后創(chuàng)作60多本英語教材，多次代表美國語言學界在世界各地舉辦語言講座，譬如1980年舉辦的北美最大規(guī)模的英語教學講座。
