After reading and discussing Defoe's famous story， they decided to continue the adventure. So they pretended that they， too， had been shipwrecked on a desert island. They spent many winter evenings telling each other tales of their imaginary life there. The father wrote down their stories，and one son， Johann Emmanuel， illustrated them with drawings and watercolors.　Some years later， the other son， Johann Rudolph， edited and published the stories as The Swiss Family Robinson. The book quickly became very popular and was translated into English in 1820.To this day， the Wyss family's tale of the adventures of a shipwrecked Swiss family is a favorite of young people all over the world.

　　原著為瑞士牧師約翰·達維德·維斯（1743-1818）所作，維斯是一個軍隊牧師，他把這個故事的情節(jié)一一講給了他的4個兒子聽。他留下了沒有寫完也沒有組織好的手稿，1812-1813年在蘇黎世由兒子約翰·魯道夫·維斯（1781-1830）編輯出版，題為《瑞士的魯濱遜漂游記》。隨后經譯者和編者的修改、補充，篇幅增加了不少。Johann David Wyss was a Swiss author， best remembered for his book The Swiss Family Robinson. He was born and died in Bern. It is said that he was inspired by Daniel Defoe's Robinson Crusoe， but wanted to write a story from which his own children would learn， as the father in the story taught important lessons to his children.The Swiss Family Robinson was first published in German and translated into English two yeaslater. It has since become one of the most popular books of all time. The book was edited by his son， Johann Rudolf Wyss， a scholar who wrote the Swiss national anthem. Another son， Johann Emmanuel Wyss， illustrated the book.Wyss has been described as an author whose style was "firmly Christian and moral in tone".There are also many underlying tones of Christianity throughout the book and in the case of many of the characters and their morals.
