生物基材料

　　A biomaterial is any substance that has been engineered to interact with bi-ological systems for a medical purpose-either a therapeutic （treat，augment，re-pair or replace a tissue function of the body） or a diagnostic one.As a science，biomaterials is about fifty years old.The study of biomaterials is called biomate-rials science or biomaterials engineering.It has experienced steady and strong growth over its history，with many companies investing large amounts of money into the development of new products.Biomaterials science encompasses elements of medicine，biology，chemistry，tissue engineering and materials science.Note that a biomaterial is different from a biological material，such as bone，that is produced by a biological system.Additionally，care should be exercised in defining a biomaterial as biocompatible，since it is application-specific.A bioma-terial that is biocompatible or suitable for one application may not be biocompati-ble in another.In the present book，twenty-three typical literatures about biomaterials pub-lished on international authoritative journals were selected to introduce the worldwide newest progress，which contains reviews or original researches on biomaterials science or biomaterials engineering.We hope this book can demon-strate advances in biomaterials as well as give references to the researchers，stu-dents and other related people.

　　編委會(huì)成員由國(guó)內(nèi)外著名高校、科研中心及重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室專(zhuān)家組成，國(guó)際有哈佛大學(xué)、麻省理工學(xué)院、加州理工學(xué)院、牛津大學(xué)、劍橋大學(xué)、芝加哥大學(xué)、哥倫比亞大學(xué)、耶魯大學(xué)、康奈爾大學(xué)、賓夕法尼亞大學(xué)、帝國(guó)理工學(xué)院等，國(guó)內(nèi)有清華大學(xué)、北京大學(xué)、中國(guó)科學(xué)院、香港大學(xué)、武漢大學(xué)等。每分冊(cè)由10名相關(guān)領(lǐng)域的專(zhuān)家組成編委會(huì)，他們均為國(guó)內(nèi)外著名學(xué)府、科研中心及重點(diǎn)實(shí)驗(yàn)室一線(xiàn)工作科研專(zhuān)家。
